There is a misconception that does exist which states that artificial products do not need any type of care at all. In the same way that your regular teeth need to be taking care of, the same is true for dental implants. Plus, you may have the ability to generate infections if you do not do this properly.
First, you need to clean your implants a minimum of two times a day. This is the same for your regular teeth. Many people think because it is an artificial tooth, it doesn’t have to be cleaned at all. It could be much more difficult to do this, and if you don’t, bacteria can develop. You should use a type of low abrasive toothpaste so that you do not damage the tooth. You should also use a nylon brush that is specifically made to get into these difficult areas. Flossing is something that must be done as well. There are types of floss, especially on waxed tape, that is highly recommended. Using an oral irrigation device is also a great way to maintain proper hygiene.
Implants can be stained, similar to natural teeth, so also keep that in mind. Your artificial teeth are simply going to be resistant to teeth whitening products. If you want to whiten them, you will have to use something like a veneer, or you may have to replace everything. The option to do this is often very expensive. That’s why it’s important to avoid infection by taking care of your teeth properly.
Regular checkups should be set up. It is during this time that the implants will be evaluated. If it hasn’t been damaged, or if it has, they will know immediately. What they will often notice that there will be a substantial amount of plaque that is built up which can be removed with their dental tools.
The area where the screw is may lead to developing headaches, and if this happens, you need to contact the dentist immediately. It could be a sign that you are getting an infection. Although this is rare, you need to be cautious.
These are all of the reasons that you should take good care of your artificial teeth, specifically if they are dental implants. It’s not that hard to do. You will develop a routine that will allow you to clean both your natural teeth and your dental implants to prevent infection.
